About Me

Welcome to my little corner of the internet, where I share my adventures and explorations in the world of food!

My name is Melanie. I’m a twenty-something-year-old Midwestern American with a heart that soars all over the world (not usually accompanied by my body unfortunately.)  Raised between northeast Pennsylvania and northeast Ohio, I have for the past two years of my life been happily settled in Cleveland, an oft-mocked rust belt city emerging into a city of exploratory cuisine, world-class music and theater, and of course, sports (yes, yes, I know, we’re the home of Lebron.)   I live with my best friend, my inspiration, and my love, Julian, whom I married in May of 2017.  Together we cook, bake, eat, explore, and binge-watch The Great British Baking Show.  We don’t have any pets or kids, so I pour my need to take care of something small and dependent on me into my little sourdough starter, Doey.

Food is a way for me to explore the world, channel my creativity, and share my love with others.  I like to imagine a future where I own a small cafe with walls lined with old books for sale and fresh-baked challah every Friday.  But in the meanwhile, I’m just teaching myself the basics with the help of The Joy of Cooking and other sources of inspiration wherever I can find them.

Outside of food, I love and explore a great many things.  I enjoy fashion and design, work in a boutique, and sell (or try to sell) homemade clothes for 18-inch dolls on Etsy.  I’m an avid reader, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English.  I try to keep up my education by pouring over books about history, sociology, literature, fashion, and people I admire.  When I have time and inspiration, I like to write too.  Julian and I travel whenever we can, and when stuck at home, love to explore international cuisines through food and travel shows and local Cleveland restaurants.

This site is to catalog my journey as I learn to cook and bake through the sources available to me, and to share the exciting foods we try around home and abroad. There’s an exciting world out there, and I’m looking forward to making the most of it!
